Our Story

A wise crab once said, the seaweed is always greener in somebody else’s lake. Well, you don’t get much greener than us.
As our name implies, The Sustainable Seafood Project aims to create better food choices for the ethical consumer. To that end, we work with like-minded partners and communities to bring you seafood that is good for you and the planet. As a company, we acknowledge that this project is an ongoing journey of learning and evolving, and we’d be honoured to have you come along for the ride!

Singaporeans have a hearty appetite for seafood. Each of us consumes 22 kg of it every year, 10% above the global average.
This is only natural! After all, we have so many amazing options here, ranging from Curry Fish Head to Sambal Stingray, and who can resist Chilli Crab?

In order to reduce the strain on our planet and ensure that we can continue having delicious seafood for a long time to come, we need to be able to answer these questions and make informed choices.
The Sustainable Seafood Project aims to do just that for our consumers.

Here at The Sustainable Seafood Project, we want to make sure that our favourite seafood is not only good for our health, but also good for our planet. We try to do this in three ways in our online community and store:

We recognise that living sustainably is an ongoing project. We respect the process and are committed to learning and evolving as new knowledge emerges. In this journey, we strive to be thoughtful, humble and sincere. We will make mistakes, but we promise to learn from them and do better!

Being an eco-warrior may sound intimidating, but we think that it shouldn’t! Most of the time, it’s the little acts that add up. For starters, you can pick locally sourced produce with a lower carbon footprint, food processing that generates minimal waste, or choose products that are not excessive in packaging. We want you to be able to make more informed choices about your food, so we have created a scorecard to share with you how we measure sustainability. Read more about our scorecard.

We believe that sustainable eating and living is for everyone, and it shouldn’t be hard. We make choosing the better, more ethical option simpler by increasing accessibility to sustainable seafood products. Through our community outreach, we also educate and share helpful tips on how we can lead a more sustainable lifestyle.
